Becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
 

Path to RDN Credential​

  • Complete a minimum of a bachelor’s degree at a US accredited university or college, and all required coursework to receive a verification statement confirming completion of an ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics. 

  • Complete an ACEND accredited supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency, or a foodservice corporation or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies. The Carondelet Health Network Dietetic Internship is an ACEND accredited supervised practice program.  Students must complete Step 1 before they start the internship.

  • A minimum of a master's degree must be completed prior to taking the CDR RDN examination.

  • Pass a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). For more information regarding the examination, refer to CDR’s website at www.cdrnet.org/RDN.

  • Maintain state licensure or certification, if applicable.  Arizona does not currently have RDN licensure or certification requirements.  Click here for information about licensure in other states.

  • Complete continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.

Our Mission

Our mission is to  graduate entry-level dietitians with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality nutrition care to culturally diverse populations in a variety of settings.

Our Goals
  1. We will develop competent entry-level dietitians who will successfully pass the registration examination and obtain employment in the nutrition and dietetics field.​

  2. We will prepare graduates to provide quality nutrition care to culturally and ethnically diverse populations. 

Intern Outcomes

Upon Completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Accurately assess medically complex patients.

  2. Develop and apply appropriate nutrition interventions in a diverse patient population. 

  3. Provide appropriate education to patients of diverse socio-economic, educational and ethnic backgrounds.

  4. Evaluate new research and practice guidelines and adjust their practice as appropriate.

  5. Accurately document patient care in a medical record using the Nutrition Care Process.

  6.  Justify their clinical decisions to their preceptors and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
