Vanessa Fisch

2020-2021

"Rotating through the Carondelet Program helped me feel very prepared for my first job as a clinical RD. During my core clinical time at St. Joseph’s I felt that my preceptors prepared me with great questions, interesting patients, and always finding opportunities for me to grow and succeed as a working professional. Outside of the core clinical rotations, I was able to see the capabilities and the growth that registered dietitians had when working in outpatient settings. As a clinical RD, I felt ready to step into a position focusing on critical care patients and felt confident in my skills given the great instruction from my preceptors. As a professor myself now and a preceptor for interns, I will be using what I learned within my internship from my preceptors in this current role."

"I felt very confident taking the RD exam and interviewing for jobs in dietetics after completing the Carondelet internship. The program included more weeks in clinical rotations compared to other internships while allowing interns to spend time in a variety of professional environments. In almost every rotation, I had multiple patient interactions each day which allowed me to become comfortable conversing with patients. I also appreciate that plenty of resources related to studying for the RD exam were provided."

"I graduated from the University of Arizona in May 2022. Upon completing my internship with Carondelet Health Network, I received my RD credentials in July 2023 and then began my Masters of Science in Nutrition at Auburn University. While completing my Masters, I started my first RD job as a part-time clinical dietitian at a LTAC facility. In addition, at this time, I served as a graduate assistant at Auburn with Alabama Extension in implementing state-wide diabetes research accompanied by a self-management support program and IRB data collection. After graduating in December 2024, I was asked to join as an adjunct faculty member at Auburn for the spring to teach Nutrition and Health while continuing research I conducted during my graduate studies but now as the program coordinator. Currently, I continue to work at LTAC facilities with Healthcare Services Group as a clinical dietitian. I can confidently say my internship with Carondelet Health Network provided me with a diverse and well-rounded experience that has not only stood out to employers but also prepared me for my career as a Registered Dietitian."
